​​​​​​​Jajpur, Jan 2: A former Principal and Managing Body Chairman of a Jajpur-based College were held on Friday for alleged financial irregularities worth over Rs 32L.

The Odisha Vigilance, after a probe, remanded the duo to judicial custody.

The accused have been identified as Adwaita Prasad Mallick, former principal who is now serving as Odia Lecturer in the college, and Badri Narayan Ray, the former Chairman of the College governing body.

According to a Vigilance release, over Rs 32 lakh was allocated to the College for empowering female students through self-defence. However, the funds were illegally utilized elsewhere for personal gain.

A case was registered against the duo on December 31, 2025, at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018, as well as Sections 409 and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code, pertaining to criminal breach of trust and conspiracy.
