Bhubaneswar, July 25: The Odisha government is all set to redress compensation-related issues of the land oustees, displaced for the Lower Suktel Major Irrigation Project in the Balangir district very soon.
Responding to a question raised by Legislator Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo during the monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly on Thursday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that at least 5339 ROR holders living in as many as 29 villages were affected by the major irrigation project.
As many as 6719 displaced ones have already been rehabilitated with the settlement of their claims. However, 253 project-affected families are yet to get their sums either due to the death of the legitimate claimants or due to other legal backlogs.
Similarly, as many as 255 landless families have received compensation from the water resources department for losing their homesteads in the project. Family members of as many as 13 land oustees have not yet received their dues from the government despite frequent notices served to them.
Apart from it, claims of 1124 project-affected families are yet pending for family disputes and lack of amicable settlement among the legal heirs. The government is intermediating in the matters to bring consensus among the stakeholders to clear up the compensation amount as soon as possible, Majhi added.
