Bhubaneswar, Feb 11: A nationwide Bharat Bandh has been called for February 12 by several central trade unions and farmer groups, with significant disruptions expected across Odisha in public services and commercial activities. While no official state holiday has been declared, the strike is anticipated to impact transport, banking, and educational institutions in various districts.

The protest has been organized to oppose the implementation of the four labour codes and other policy decisions that unions claim undermine workers’ rights and job security. Farmer organizations have also extended their support, further escalating the scale of participation.

In Odisha, schools and colleges may remain closed in certain areas, depending on local conditions. Banks and post offices are expected to face disruptions, with employees’ unions reportedly backing the strike. Government offices and public sector units might operate with limited staff if attendance is affected.

Public transport services, including buses, are likely to be partially operational or completely off the roads in regions where protests intensify. Local markets and business establishments may close as a precautionary measure. Industrial operations could see a slowdown as workers participate in the bandh.

However, essential services such as hospitals, emergency medical services, pharmacies, water supply, and electricity are expected to function normally. Airport operations are not anticipated to be affected, but road and rail transport could experience delays depending on the protests' intensity.

Authorities are set to monitor the situation closely to ensure law and order is maintained, with a focus on ensuring that emergency services remain uninterrupted. Residents are advised to plan their travel and banking transactions in advance, taking into account possible disruptions.

The impact of the bandh in Odisha will largely depend on the level of participation and local enforcement. While previous nationwide strikes have caused varying degrees of disruption, the February 12 Bharat Bandh may lead to moderate to significant slowdowns in daily activities across the state.
