Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: In a major move aimed at reviving state-run telecom entities, the government has mandated the use of BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) network services across all government offices for internet, broadband, landline, and leased line connectivity.

Following directives from the Central Government, the State Electronics and IT Department has issued formal instructions to all departments to adopt BSNL services for official communication needs. Departments including the Cooperative Department have already begun implementing the directive on a priority basis.

This decision is part of a broader initiative by the Central Government to revive BSNL and MTNL, both of which are Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs). To support their turnaround, the Centre has made it mandatory for all its ministries and departments to use BSNL and MTNL network services. State governments have also been advised to follow suit.

Sources confirm that the Ministry of Telecommunications had earlier written to the Chief Secretary in April regarding this directive. Acting on the communication, the State Electronics and IT Department has now asked all government departments to switch to BSNL services wherever available.

Departments have been directed to immediately review existing service providers and assess the feasibility of transitioning to BSNL. In areas where BSNL services are accessible, the shift must be carried out without delay.

Additionally, the Cooperative Department has instructed all its subordinate offices to implement the directive and submit a compliance report by 30th September.
