Muscat, December 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Oman's Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, in Muscat, marking the start of his two-day visit to Oman.

This visit, the final leg of his four-day, three-nation tour, follows his engagements in Ethiopia and comes at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. It is Modi's second visit to Oman, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in trade, investment, energy, defence, security, technology, agriculture, and culture. Modi's visit also follows Sultan Haitham's visit to India in December 2023, and is expected to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership shared by India and Oman.

In addition to his talks with Omani leaders, PM Modi will address the Indian diaspora in Oman. Oman's Ambassador to India described the visit as a "very important" milestone in bilateral relations.
