Rayagada, May 25: In a bizarre incident, a cement-laden trailer truck reportedly got stranded deep inside the dense forests of the Niyamgiri Hills after the driver allegedly followed incorrect directions on Google Maps.
The truck, carrying around 700 bags of cement from Raipur to Kalyansinghpur in Rayagada district, was supposed to travel through Muniguda and Bissam Cuttack. However, after crossing Bissam Cuttack, the driver relied on Google Maps, which reportedly suggested a shorter 60-km route through the hilly Niyamgiri region.
Unaware of the difficult terrain, the driver entered the rugged mountain roads of Niyamgiri and eventually got stuck near Dangalodi village after the trailer failed to move further on the rocky forest path.
The driver and helper remained stranded inside the dense forest for nearly five days without proper food or water. Adding to their fear was the constant threat of wild elephants in the region. According to reports, the main driver fled from the spot after three days, leaving helper Rahul Sahu alone inside the forest.
With the help of local villagers, Rahul finally received food after several days and later sought assistance from residents of Jagannathpur village under Kalyansinghpur block.
Locals are now unloading the cement bags from the stranded trailer and transporting them using tractors. Residents said it may take another two days to move the cement consignment completely from the hilly area to Kalyansinghpur.
