Kamakhyanagar, Dec 8: In a major breakthrough, the Kamakhyanagar Excise team has seized brown sugar worth Rs 60 lakh and arrested two person in connection with the illicit drug trade.

The operation, based on a tip-off, resulted in the seizure and arrest of a mother-son duo.

The excise sleuths raided a rented house in Mundideuli Sahi, under the Kamakhyanagar police limits, where they found a significant quantity of brown sugar. The arrested individuals were identified as Mamata Sahu and her son Akash Sahu, both residents of Galu village under Kamakhyan police station. They are believed to be key players in the local brown sugar trade.

However, the raid took a dramatic turn when Bikash, another son of Mamata Sahu, managed to escape by jumping over the wall, fleeing the scene with a stash of brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore.

The excise team has launched an investigation to uncover further details about the illegal drug operations and trace the whereabouts of Bikash, who remains at large. The authorities are also working to identify any other individuals involved in the illicit trade.

This significant seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in Odisha to crack down on the growing problem of drug trafficking in the region.
