Yamaha introduces its highly anticipated YZF-R2 motorcycle in India

Yamaha Motor India has officially launched the YZF-R2 supersport motorcycle, pricing the base model at Rs 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom). India serves as the very first global market to receive this entirely new two-wheeler. Dealerships across the country will begin deliveries in mid-September 2026. This launch marks Yamaha’s highly anticipated entry into the fiercely competitive 200cc segment, stepping up from its deeply popular R15 lineup that has dominated local roads since 2008.

Engine Specifications and Core Performance

Powering the new motorcycle is a freshly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine featuring four valves and fuel injection. Riders can expect an energetic output of 26.5 bhp alongside 19.1 Nm of peak torque. Yamaha engineers focused heavily on weight reduction, keeping the total kerb weight strictly at 149 kg. They utilized a high-tensile steel diamond frame to achieve this extreme lightness, giving the bike a distinct power-to-weight advantage over its peers. It also pairs a crisp six-speed gearbox with a standard assist and slipper clutch for smoother downshifts.

Buyers can choose from three distinct variants across five vivid colors. While the standard edition costs Rs 2,30,500, the mid-level quick-shifter variant demands Rs 2,39,500. For performance enthusiasts seeking peak hardware, the top-tier YZF-R2 M retails at Rs 2,53,000. This flagship model boasts an exclusive Smart Key System, a faux-suede seat, and fully adjustable front and rear suspension components.

Every single version includes a crisp five-inch full-color TFT display, standard traction control, dual-channel ABS, and three specific riding modes.
