Bhubaneswar, February 19: The Odisha government has urgently appealed to the Government of India for the rescue and repatriation of six migrant workers stranded in Thailand.

In a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs, Principal Resident Commissioner Vishal Gagan highlighted the workers' plight, stating they have been without pay for three months and are living under dire conditions.

The workers, employed at a plywood company, reached out to the state government via social media, seeking assistance.

The workers, identified as Jashobanta Sahoo, Prasanta Rout, Bijaya Kumar Swain, Hemanata Behera, and Jayant Kumar Malik from Kendrapara district, and Manaranjan Sahu from Bhadrak district, are facing food shortages and threats from their employer.

In a video message circulated on social media, the workers alleged that they have been denied wages for several months, threatened by their employer, and left to cope with food shortages and difficult living conditions. They appealed to the Odisha government to intervene and ensure their immediate rescue and return home.
