Cuttack, Aug 3: A giant crocodile was spotted aground on the Kathajodi Riverbank at Odisha’s Cuttack on Saturday.
The site pulled a huge crowd at the Trisulia Bridge in the Cuttack city in the morning, while the reptile crawled to the drier side of the stream for basking on the bed of sand.
On being informed, forest officials rushed to the spot and watched it out so that nobody harms the gharial. After a few hours the wildlife team managed the reptile to escort into the flood water.
Normally gharial species of crocodiles are the inhabitants of the sweet water in the Mahanadi or on the mouth of the Bay of Bengal. It’s one of the rarest scene to see a gharial in the shallow water of the Kathajodi River, said a forest official.
It might have migrated here from the Mahanadi due to the favorable floodwater, the official added.
