Sudhansu Mohan Samal pushes for higher output and strict safety

Kurmitar:In a significant move to strengthen mining operations in the state, the Managing Director of the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), ShriSudhansu Mohan Samal, IAS, conducted an extensive on-ground inspection of the Kurmitar Iron Ore Mines. The visit focused on streamlining logistics, accelerating production rates, and ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.

Accompanied by a high-level team including Director (Operations) ShriSabyasachiMohanty, Director (HR) ShriAlok Kumar Pal, and Director (Finance) ShriBanaBihariPani, the MD evaluated the current performance metrics of the mines. The core agenda was to align the mine's output with the growing raw material demands of the steel-based industries across Odisha.

Push for Maximum Capacity and Security

During his review of the sales and production data, ShriSamal issued clear directives to the operational teams. He emphasized the urgent need to scale up extraction activities to hit the limit allowed under the Environment Clearance (EC) capacity.

Beyond production numbers, the MD took a strong stance on security. He instructed officials to implement robust measures to completely prevent pilferage. He further stressed that while higher output is the goal, it must not come at the cost of human safety, mandating the highest safety standards across all mining zones.

Upgrading Infrastructure and Logistics

A major portion of the visit was dedicated to inspecting the technological infrastructure. ShriSamal reviewed the efficiency of the 1200 TPH Fully Mechanised Primary Screening and Crushing Plant, urging the technical team to optimize its performance.

The inspection also covered the critical despatch areas. The MD assessed the status of the ongoing Mechanised Wagon and Truck Loading project. He set a strict deadline for the project's completion, noting that automated loading systems are vital for improving despatch speed and meeting future sales targets efficiently.

Concluding the visit, ShriSamal called for a technology-driven approach and better coordination among departments. He reiterated that accountability and efficiency are the pillars of OMC’s strategy to ensure sustained growth in the current fiscal year.
