Ganjam administration intensifies ‘Clean and Green’ drive with weekly mass cleaning campaign

Chhatrapur, June 23: The Ganjam district administration has launched an ambitious initiative to transform the district into a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful region through a weekly mass cleaning programme conducted every Tuesday across urban and rural areas.

Under the ‘Swachha Ganjam, Sundar Ganjam’ campaign, cleanliness drives are being carried out in all panchayats, villages, and urban local bodies of the district. The initiative, launched by the district administration, is gradually evolving into a large-scale public movement with active participation from citizens and government officials alike.

As part of the campaign, a special mass cleaning drive was conducted on Tuesday at a park in Ward No. 11 of Chhatrapur Municipality. The event witnessed an unusual and inspiring sight as senior officials and public representatives joined sanitation workers in the cleanliness effort.

District Collector V. Keerthi Vasan and Chhatrapur MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak personally participated in the drive, wielding brooms and spades to remove garbage, weeds, and accumulated waste from the park premises. Their involvement drew appreciation from local residents and participants.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of the administration but a collective duty of every citizen. He said a clean environment helps prevent diseases and contributes to the creation of a healthy society. He also noted that mass cleaning programmes are now being conducted every Tuesday across all panchayats and urban areas of the district.

MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak praised the administration’s initiative, stating that ‘Swachha Ganjam, Sundar Ganjam’ is not merely a slogan but a mission that must be translated into reality. He stressed the importance of community participation in sustaining cleanliness and environmental conservation efforts.

During the special drive, plastic waste and other discarded materials were collected from various locations and transported to designated dumping yard centres for proper disposal.

The programme was attended by the Vice-Chairperson of Chhatrapur Municipality, local councillors, municipal sanitation workers, municipal officials, and several prominent citizens, all of whom actively participated in the cleanliness campaign.

The event concluded with the District Collector administering a pledge to participants, urging them to contribute towards building a cleaner and more beautiful Ganjam district. Officials said the campaign will be expanded further in the coming days to ensure greater public participation and long-term environmental sustainability.
