Bhubaneswar, Nov 20: The Odisha Transport Department has announced heightened road safety measures in preparation for the picnic season. In a statement released on Wednesday, officials urged all motorists to ensure their vehicle documents, including driving licences, insurance papers, and fitness certificates, are up to date. Failure to comply could result in hefty fines or even the confiscation of vehicles.

To curb accidents during the busy period, the state government has directed police stations across Odisha to conduct intensive vehicle checks from November to February. This period typically sees a rise in road accidents, with an influx of visitors heading to popular picnic and tourist destinations.

Authorities will pay particular attention to routes leading to these high-traffic areas. In addition to the regular checks, police have emphasized that drivers found under the influence of alcohol will be arrested on the spot.

Vehicle inspections will also be more stringent for those entering tourist spots, as part of a wider effort to reduce accidents and ensure the safety of families and groups enjoying seasonal outings.
