Bhubaneswar, Sep 4: In a major crackdown, the Assam Police, in collaboration with the Commissionerate Police, conducted a joint raid in Bhubaneswar on Thursday to arrest a fugitive accused in multi-crore financial scams.

The operation took place at Subhadra Apartment in the Infocity area of the Odisha capital, following a tip-off about the suspect's whereabouts.

The accused, identified as Sameer Patnaik, is on the ‘most wanted’ list of Assam Police and has an active court warrant against him. He is alleged to be involved in financial scams amounting to several crores in Assam and had been on the run for an extended period. Acting on fresh intelligence inputs, police were able to trace him to Bhubaneswar.

On Thursday afternoon, joint police teams reached the suspected hideout at Subhadra Apartment. When repeated knocks at the door went unanswered, officers broke into the flat, which was locked from the inside. To prevent any possible escape, the Commissionerate Police secured all entry and exit points, while Assam Police personnel sealed off the apartment.

Although Patnaik was not found at the location, police detained and began questioning a woman present inside the flat.
