Bhubaneswar, Aug 7: Fuel prices in Odisha remain persistently high, with certain districts seeing significant increases in petrol and diesel costs. As of Thursday, Malkangiri district recorded the steepest fuel rates in the state, highlighting the growing financial burden on local residents and businesses.
In the state capital, Bhubaneswar, petrol is being sold at Rs 101.29 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 92.20 per litre. Neighboring Cuttack is also facing elevated fuel prices, with petrol priced at Rs 101.24 per litre and diesel at Rs 93.34 per litre.
Sambalpur, another key city in the state, is grappling with similar price hikes. Here, petrol is priced at Rs 102.39 per litre, and diesel stands at Rs 93.22 per litre.
However, Malkangiri district, located in the tribal-dominated southern region of the state, has seen the highest fuel prices. Petrol in Malkangiri is priced at an alarming Rs 102.99 per litre, while diesel has risen to Rs 94.49 per litre, putting even more strain on consumers in the area.
Nabarangapur district is not far behind, with petrol priced at Rs 102.66 per litre and diesel at Rs 94.50 per litre. These steep prices reflect the ongoing challenges faced by consumers, especially in Odisha’s more remote areas.
Local residents, particularly those in rural districts, as well as transporters, have voiced concerns over the rising fuel costs. They fear that continued price hikes will lead to higher transportation charges and an increase in the cost of essential goods, further affecting daily life.
Despite the growing concerns, neither the state government nor oil companies have announced any immediate measures to alleviate the pressure of high fuel prices.
