Mumbai, Oct 30: A video capturing a heated roadside confrontation between a biker and traffic police officers in Mumbai has gone viral, prompting an official response from the city's traffic department.

The incident began when the biker was fined for not wearing a helmet. After the fine was issued, the man pursued the officers' scooter and stopped them, accusing them of having a broken number plate.

A bystander filmed the exchange, showing the man questioning two traffic havildars about their own adherence to traffic rules. As the video gained widespread attention on social media, Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police, Pankaj Shirsat, provided clarification on the incident. He confirmed that the officers involved, Havildars Gaikwad and Shelar, were performing beat marshal duties at the time. Shirsat explained that Gaikwad was riding a friend's scooter, and clarified that the viral claim about a missing number plate was inaccurate. "The rear number plate was intact; only the front one was improperly affixed," he stated.

Shirsat also noted that the issue had been resolved the following day, with a fine of ₹2,000 issued for missing mirrors and the lack of a 'Police Patil' sign on the vehicle.

Warning Against Confrontations

Shirsat cautioned against such public confrontations, labeling them as "extremely dangerous." He urged citizens to use the official traffic app to lodge complaints, instead of confronting officers in person.
