Gonda (Uttar Pradesh), July 18: As many as 12 coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district today killing four passengers and injuring two others.
As per reports, the mishap took place in Pikaura when the train was en-route to Dibrugarh in Assam from Chandigarh.
Following the derailment, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to promptly reach the accident site. The Chief Minister's Office announced on social media platform ‘X’ that CM Adityanath instructed officials to immediately transport the injured to the hospital and ensure they receive proper treatment. He also expressed his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.
In response to the incident, the district administration has deployed a 40-member medical team and 15 ambulances for relief and rescue operations. A Railways official stated that the derailment has disrupted traffic on the route, necessitating the diversion of various trains.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya shared his condolences on X in Hindi, stating, "Received sad news about the death of many people after a few coaches derailed in the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in Gonda district."
He added, "I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured and a place for the departed souls at his feet."
Additionally, the Assam Chief Minister's Office reported that CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has been informed about the incident and is actively monitoring the situation.
