Kandhamal, Sept 6: Incidents of theft and robbery have reportedly been increasing in the Kotagarh area of Kandhamal district.
Acting on a robbery complaint, Kotagarh police have arrested four alleged members of an armed robbery gang and seized cash, mobile phones, a firearm, a knife and a Bullet motorcycle from their possession.
The arrested accuseds have been identified as Samit Paltasingh, Bikash Baliarsingh, Rohit Nayak and Rahul Manseth, reportedly from the Kotagarh-Tumudibandh area.
According to police, a few days ago, the accused allegedly broke open the door of the house of Manju Nayak of Kumbhar Sahi in Kotagarh and robbed gold ornaments and ₹25,000 in cash at gunpoint. Following the complaint filed at Kotagarh Police Station, police launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in the robbery.
A police team led by Kotagarh Police Station Officer Sambit Swain conducted an investigation and succeeded in arresting the four accused.
Police reportedly recovered ₹14,700 in cash, two mobile phones, a firearm, a knife and a Bullet motorcycle in connection with the case.
After registering a case at Kotagarh Police Station, police produced the arrested accused before the court.
Baliguda SDPO Shubham Bhosale confirmed the arrests and seizures through a press statement.
The police investigation is continuing to establish whether the accused were involved in other theft and robbery incidents in the area.
