Sambalpur, Oct 13: At four people were crushed to death after a cattle-laden truck overturned in Burla area of Odisha’s Sambalpur district last night.
The identities of the deceased persons are yet to be ascertained.
As per reports, the mishap took place at Katapali Chowk on National Highway No. 53 under Burla police limits. A cattle-laden truck was parked at Katapali Chowk and the driver along with other staff of the truck was cooking food in front of the truck.
Meanwhile, another speeding truck, which was heading towards Sambalpur from Bargarh, hit the parked truck from the rear side and fled from the spot. As a result, the cattle-laden truck overturned crushing four people to death and injuring two others.
Upon getting the information, police along with Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The injured persons were rushed to the Burla Hospital in critical condition. The cops also seized the bodies of the deceased and sent them for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
