Vizianagaram (AP), May 19: In a heart-wrenching tragedy, four children died of suffocation after accidentally getting locked inside a parked car in Dwarapudi village of Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday evening.
According to local sources, the children identified as B. Uday (8), Charumati (8), Karishma (6), and Manaswini (6) were playing near a residential area when they reportedly entered an unused car parked nearby. The vehicle’s doors are believed to have locked automatically, trapping the children inside.
Family members began searching for the children after they failed to return home. Following an extended search, the children were eventually found unconscious inside the vehicle. In a desperate attempt to save them, relatives broke the car windows and pulled them out.
The children were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared them brought dead. Preliminary reports suggest that the children died of asphyxiation due to lack of ventilation inside the closed vehicle.
The incident has plunged the village into deep sorrow. Grieving family members and residents gathered at the scene, many in tears, struggling to come to terms with the loss.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” said a local resident. “Four innocent lives were lost in a matter of hours. The entire community is in shock.”
Police have registered a case and an investigation is underway. Authorities are also urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant and ensure children's safety around parked vehicles.
