Bhawanipatna, Oct 9: The former MP and five times MLA Dhaneswar Majhi, passed away at the age of 83. He breathed his last at Kasinga Hospital in Kalahandi district.

Born on July 5, 1941, Majhi's interest in politics started from his student days, eventually leading him to join the Janata Dal. He was elected as a Rajya Sabha MP from 1978 to 1984. Majhi also represented the Narla and Kasinga Assembly constituencies as an MLA in 1971, 1974, 2000, 2004, and 2014.

Majhi had recently quit the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
