Bhubaneswar, December 2: In a significant crackdown on illegal drug trade, Khordha police arrested three individuals, including a woman, on Monday evening and seized 650 grams of brown sugar valued at several crores of rupees. The operation, dubbed ‘Sugar Trap,’ also led to the recovery of key drug paraphernalia, including polythene packets, a sealing machine, a digital weighing scale, 175 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, three mobile phones, and a scooty.

Speaking at a press conference in Khordha, Dr. Satyajit Naik, DIG, Central Range, Cuttack, along with Khordha SP, informed that the operation was initiated based on reliable intelligence received on December 1 at 7:40 PM. Under the direction of Vivekanand Sharma, SP Khordha, and the supervision of Nihar Ranjan Pradhan, SDPO Khordha, and Sanjay Kumar Nayak, IIC Model PS, Khordha, a special team was formed to raid the location.

The team, led by Sub-Inspector Dinesh Kumar Pingua and assisted by ASI Phulamani Hembram, successfully apprehended the suspects and confiscated the following: 650 grams of brown sugar, Polythene packets used for packaging, a sealing machine, a digital weighing scale, and 175 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup (each containing 100 ml of codeine phosphate and triprolidine hydrochloride).

“This seizure of 650 grams of brown sugar could be the largest in Khordha this year,” said Dr. Naik. “Earlier, under Operation ‘Prahar,’ Khordha led the Central Zone in brown sugar seizures, and operations like ‘Sugar Trap’ will continue to combat drug trafficking in the district.”

The arrested individuals, two men and one woman, are all residents of Khordha district. Police acted swiftly following the tip-off, and the raid was conducted successfully, demonstrating the police's increasing efforts to combat the growing drug menace in the region.

This operation forms part of the Khordha police's ongoing efforts to disrupt narcotics trafficking in the region. Authorities affirmed that such operations will continue with an intensified focus on dismantling drug networks and preventing the illegal circulation of controlled substances.
