New Delhi, Jan 17: Giridhar Gamang, former Odisha chief minister and a nine-time Koraput Lok Sabha MP between 1972 and 2004, rejoined the Congress on Wednesday after around eight years.
He had quit Congress in 2015 and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and later, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
The 80-year-old leader returned to the grand old party along with his wife & ex-MLA Hema Gamang, son Sishir Gamang and former Bargarh MP Sanjay Bhoi.
He rejoined the party in the presence of Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken and Odisha Congress In-charge Dr Ajoy Kumar in Delhi.
Sanjay had won from the Bargarh Lok Sabha constituency on a Congress ticket in the 2009 elections. He lost the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Later, Bhoi quit Congress and joined the BJP after he was not considered for the Bargarh seat in 2019 elections.
