Former forest dept employee arrested in Odisha with 2.8 kg opium

Boudh, Sep 18: The Special Task Force (STF) has seized opium weighing 2.8 kilograms from Boudh and arrested one person in this connection. 

The accused has been identified as Sanatan Pradhan, a native of Puruna Cuttack. On the basis of intelligence input, a raid was conducted by a team of STF with the help of Boudh district police on the side of NH-157 on Sunday.

During search contraband opium weighing 2.8 kilograms, ganja powder weighing 3.81 kilograms and 60 packets of ganja stuffed cigarette from the possession of Pradhan.

Besides, during house search of the accused one deer skin, one turtle scale and one boar tusk and other incriminating materials found from his possession.

Police said that Pradhan was previously working in Forest Department and had taken VRS during the 2008.

Since 2020, STF has seized more than 72 kg of brown sugar, 202 gram cocaine,more than 116 quintals of ganja, opium weighing  3.6 kg  including the latest seizure and arrested more than 179 drug dealers and peddlers.
