Star cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal recently shared a major personal update during a candid chat on AB de Villiers' popular YouTube channel. Wanting to maximise his performance for his franchise, the veteran leg-spinner revealed he has entirely given up alcohol. For more than six months now, he has maintained a sober lifestyle. Reaching the age of 35 prompted him to re-evaluate his habits, ensuring he remains highly active and capable of delivering absolute maximum effort for his team. As a seasoned professional, he also aims to set a positive example for emerging talents in the league.

Missing out on the championship trophy last year still stings for the Punjab squad. They suffered a narrow six-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the thrilling final. Discussing this heartbreak, the experienced bowler pointed out a crucial missing piece in their lineup. Star all-rounder Marco Jansen was unavailable for the ultimate showdown, which heavily impacted their chances of lifting the trophy.

Jansen had been in phenomenal form, snagging 16 wickets across 14 games. Unfortunately, international duties called him away right before the playoffs. A delayed tournament schedule meant he had to join the South African squad for their World Test Championship preparations. His absence was deeply felt, especially considering his lethal bowling and handy lower-order hitting capabilities. Having him in that final match would have likely secured the title for Punjab, according to the veteran spinner.

Battling Through Painful Injuries

Physical setbacks severely hampered the leg-spinner's own contributions during the business end of the tournament. Looking back at his individual journey, he expressed deep frustration over his fitness struggles. Following a gruelling match against Kolkata, he sustained a fractured rib. Matters worsened when he later suffered a broken knuckle.

Playing through such intense pain meant he could not grip the ball correctly during the crucial semifinal and final encounters. His trademark leg-spin was essentially neutralised by these physical limitations.
