Bhubaneswar, August 5: In a significant development in the FM College female student's suicide case, the Crime Branch late Sunday night arrested student Jyotiprakash Bishwal and non-student Shubhrasambit Nayak. Following the rejection of their bail pleas, both have been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Sources indicate that the Crime Branch team may have a longer list of suspects to be apprehended, raising anticipation over who might be next.
On Monday, the Crime Branch produced the two accused before the SDJM court and sought their remand. Along with the arrests, several new pieces of evidence and documents seized from the accused were submitted in court. The investigation team has also requested court permission to send the materials to the forensic laboratory for further examination. However, the Crime Branch has not yet confirmed whether remand approval has been granted.
Earlier in the probe, the Crime Branch had arrested former president Dillip Kumar Ghosh and HOD Sameer Kumar Sahu in connection with the case.
Reports state that Jyotiprakash sustained serious injuries while attempting to intervene in the incident. Meanwhile, Shubhrasambit and Soumyashree actively voiced demands for justice at various times and in media interactions.
The Crime Branch has charged both accused under stringent sections including 108/6 and 2-A of the BNS Act, holding them responsible for allegedly instigating the female student to commit suicide.
The investigation continues as the authorities seek to bring all responsible parties to justice.
