Bhubaneswar, July 16: Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling on Wednesday assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the best medical care for Jyotiprakash Biswal, a student from Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore who got severe burn injuries while trying to save Soumyashree Bisi.

Soumyashree, a 20-year-old B.Ed. student, had attempted self-immolation due to alleged sexual harassment and later died from her injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

Taking to his official ‘X’ handle, Mahaling said that he spoke to Jyotiprakash’s mother over the phone and checked on his health.

“The government is committed to ensuring that Jyotiprakash receives the best possible treatment. Special instructions have been given to the medical team at SCB to provide focused care. I pray to the Almighty for his speedy recovery,” the Minister wrote.

It is worth noting that Jyotiprakash, who jumped to Soumyashree’s rescue when she set herself on fire after pouring petrol, is currently admitted to the Burn Unit of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
