Balasore, Jul 3: Flash floods have affected 17 gram panchayats across three blocks-Bhograi, Baliapal, Basta and parts of the Jaleswar Notified Area Council (NAC). Authorities have initiated relief and rescue operations to support the impacted regions.

In Baliapal Block, located along the Subarnarekha, the flood situation remains dire despite several days of inundation. Over 15,000 residents from more than 20 villages are still stranded as floodwaters persist, submerging roads and agricultural lands. Many villagers, who have lost their homes and crops, are facing an increasingly dire situation with little to no access to basic resources.

As of this morning, the water level at Jaleswar Rajghat reached a critical 9.17 meters, surpassing the warning level of 9.04 meters. Floodwaters are still rising in several affected villages, including Jamkunda, Asti, Madhupura, Baliapal, Vishnupura, and Nikhira, which remain completely cut off from the outside world.

While there has been a slight drop in water levels, conditions remain severe. Roads in numerous areas are submerged under 3 to 4 feet of water, significantly hindering transportation and movement. Furthermore, flooded farmlands have destroyed crops, worsening the livelihoods of those dependent on agriculture.

One of the most pressing concerns is the severe shortage of essential supplies, such as food and drinking water. Many affected villages have yet to receive adequate relief, fueling growing frustration among the local population. The delay in providing necessary aid has aggravated the distress of residents, who are struggling to cope with the devastating effects of the flood.

In light of the escalating crisis, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, Mrs. Pravati Parida, is scheduled to visit the flood-hit areas today. She will assess the situation on the ground and review ongoing flood relief operations.

As the region grapples with the aftermath of this natural disaster, both the government and local communities are working tirelessly to mitigate the damage and provide relief to those in need. The situation remains critical, and continued support is essential to help those affected by this unprecedented flood event.
