Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: As many as five Royal Bengal Tigers will be imported to Odisha forest from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra by the end of September, said Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Wildlife Susanta Nanda on Wednesday.
Nanda informed that, three of them will be relocated to Debrigarh sanctuary in Bargarh while two others will be released into Similipal tiger reserve under the aegis of Genetic Diversity Programme.
Nanda further said that two special teams will soon leave for MP and Maharastra to expedite the animal deportation programe.
“Based upon our correspondence, the MP and Maharashtra governments are agree to provide the big cats. They have also selected the tigers from their core area. Two separate teams led by CCF and RCCF will be leaving to the scheduled sanctuaries to procure the Royal Bengal Tigers,” Nanda said.
Apart from the tigers, two more giraffes will be brought to Nandankanan Zoological Park as a part of the animal exchange programme, Nanda added.
