Sambalpur, Feb 23: At least five persons were killed and three others sustained severe injuries in two separate road mishaps in Odisha’s Sambalpur district last night.
In the first mishap which took place near Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), two students of the institute were killed after the bike they were travelling in collided with a scooter in front of the Marichi Hostel.
The deceased were identified as Ashirbad Rath, and Arakhita Sethi. Two others were critically injured in the mishap and admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science And Research (VIMSAR), Burla for medical treatment.
The second mishap took place at Chaunr Bridge under Town Police limits when a bike and scooter had a collision killing three persons and injuring two others.
While two people died on the spot, one person succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at VIMSAR.
Further investigation into the mishaps was underway.
