Cuttack, Jul 15: A major mishap was averted at the Jobra Barrage in Cuttack after a 19-year-old fisherman was rescued by the Fire and Emergency Services while fishing late at night.
The rescued youth has been identified as Nagaraj Rao. According to reports, Nagaraj had gone to the Jobra Barrage on Monday night to catch fish when he accidentally slipped and fell onto one of the barrage gates.
Local residents noticed the young fisherman struggling in the water and immediately alerted the Fire and Emergency Services. Responding promptly, the department's Quick Reaction Team (QRT) rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The team successfully rescued Nagaraj from the barrage gate, saving him from what could have been a fatal accident.
He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Officials said his condition is stable and he is out of danger.
The timely intervention of the Fire and Emergency Services and the alertness of local residents played a crucial role in preventing the tragedy.
