Fisherman missing after boat capsizes near Podampeta

Chhatrapur, August 28: A fishing trip turned tragic early this morning when a boat carrying seven fishermen capsized near Podampeta, resulting in one person going missing.

According to sources, the incident occurred around 4 AM when Eng. Kaleya (49), a resident of Sana Nolia Nuagaon under Chhatrapur block, ventured into the sea along with six others for fishing. Shortly after entering the waters off Podampeta coast, the boat reportedly lost balance and overturned.

While six of the fishermen managed to swim back to safety, Kaleya could not be located. Despite extensive search efforts by local residents, there has been no trace of him so far.

Local authorities were immediately alerted, and rescue operations are currently underway. Chhatrapur MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak visited the site, interacted with the affected villagers, and held discussions with the administration to coordinate the search efforts.
