Malkangiri, Nov 23: In an extreme step to get rid of ditress for good, a woman in Odisha’s Malkangiri district attempted to end herself with her two kids.

Broken over her husband’s death, she poisoned her 2-year daughter with 1-year son and herself consumed it, sources said.

The incident took place at the Katliguda village under the Malkangiri Sadar police late night on Saturday.

The victim, identified as Basanti Sodi and her two kids are now under treatment at the Malkangiri hospital.

According to report, Basanti had lost her spouse Maheswar Sodi last week who died in a very young age. Since then, she was living a miserable life along with her two kids, as there was nobody else to earn bread for their existence.

On Saturday, Basanti, with a heavy heart took the extreme step to commit suicide along with the two kids. She consumed a toxic wild fruit and forcefully fed it to her two kids, who became critical after sometime.

On being informed, locals picked them in unconscious states and rushed to the hospital for treatment.
