Delhi, August 9: In a historic first a freight train reached newly commissioned Anantnag Goods Shed in the Kashmir Valley from Punjab on Saturday.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the development that markd a significant milestone in connecting the Kashmir region to the national freight network.

With it, transportation of local produces with imports by railway network will reduce cost for our citizens living in Kashmir valley, said Vaishnaw.
Taking to X Vaishnaw said, “First freight train to the Kashmir valley:- Today (9.8.2025) first freight train reached newly commissioned Anantnag Goods Shed in the Kashmir Valley from Punjab, marking a significant milestone in connecting the Kashmir region to the national freight network.”
The post also said that“Transportation by railway network will reduce cost for our citizens living in Kashmir valley.”
