Former boyfriend caught in India after brutal US killing

An international search for justice concluded in Tamil Nadu as local police, in coordination with Interpol, apprehended Arjun Sharma. The 26-year-old stands accused of the brutal killing of his former partner, Nikitha Rao Godishala, in Maryland, USA.

The investigation began on January 2 when Sharma himself approached Howard County Police to report the 27-year-old data analyst missing. He claimed to have last seen her on New Year’s Eve. However, authorities soon discovered that Sharma had boarded a flight to India on the very same day he filed the report. This suspicious behavior prompted a search of his apartment on Twin Rivers Road in Columbia.

Inside the residence, investigators made a gruesome discovery. Nikitha’s body was found with multiple stab wounds, indicating a violent struggle. Following the discovery, the case was immediately classified as a homicide. US federal agencies quickly alerted Indian authorities, leading to a high-stakes surveillance operation that ended with Sharma’s arrest in Tamil Nadu.

Nikitha was a highly respected professional, working as a Data and Strategy Analyst at Vheda Health. Friends and colleagues remember her as a brilliant individual who recently earned the "All-In Award" for her dedication. She had been living independently in Ellicott City before her life was tragically cut short.

The Indian Embassy in the United States has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the grieving family and is staying in close contact with local Maryland authorities. While social media speculation continues, officials have clarified that certain images circulating online do not depict the actual suspect. Formal extradition proceedings are now expected to bring Sharma back to the US to face first-degree and second-degree murder charges.
