Cuttack, Jan 22: The Odisha Vigilance team today apprehended Janaki Ranjan Mallik, a Revenue Inspector (RI) from Kakhadi Circle under the Sadar Tahasil of Cuttack, for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a landowner.

According to Vigilance officials, the landowner had applied online for the mutation and issuance of the Record of Rights (ROR) or Patta. RI Mallik had fixed the hearing date for January 27, 2026, and instructed the applicant to meet him on January 20. During the meeting, Mallik demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 in exchange for submitting a favourable report for the mutation case.

Unable to pay the demanded bribe, the landowner reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities. Acting swiftly on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and apprehended Mallik while he was accepting the bribe at his office today. The tainted money was recovered from his possession and seized by the authorities.

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches have been conducted at three locations linked to Mallik to investigate potential disproportionate assets.

In this regard, a case has been registered at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station (PS Case No. 3/2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing.
