Berhampur, Mar 11: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, police and the Excise Department seized a large quantity of ganja from a college student near the Digapahandi Agriculture Office in Ganjam district.

According to sources, the student was transporting the contraband on a motorcycle when officials intercepted him during a checking operation. Upon searching the youth and the bike, officers recovered a significant quantity of ganja. The student was immediately taken into custody and later arrested by the Excise Department.

The accused, aged 19, is reportedly a resident of Gajapati district. Officials are now investigating how the young student became involved in the illegal trade.

Reports suggest that ganja trafficking is steadily increasing in the state, with smugglers adopting new methods to evade law enforcement. In many cases, the contraband is concealed on the body or transported through trucks, buses, and pickup vans.

Authorities suspect that drug syndicates are now luring innocent college students with money and using them to transport ganja. Further investigation is underway to identify the network involved in the racket.
