Fifth batch of Rath timber reaches Puri from Boudh Forest Division

Puri, April 29: The fifth batch of wood for the construction of chariots for the annual Rath Yatra has reached Puri. A total of 28 logs—comprising 16 Dhaura and 12 Asana—arrived late Monday night from the Kantamal Range of the Boudh Forest Division.

With this, 169 logs have been delivered to Puri so far, across five phases. As per official estimates, 814 logs are required for this year’s chariot construction. Last year, 51 logs remained unused, while another 488 logs are expected to arrive in subsequent phases.

Meanwhile, at Khapuria in Cuttack, the process of sawing 157 logs is currently underway.

Chariot construction will formally begin on Akshaya Tritiya, which falls on Wednesday, marking the commencement of the key preparations for the Rath Yatra.
