Keonjhar, Jan 14: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday took a holy dip in the Baitarani River at Sabya Kaberi ghat in Keonjhar district on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti.

Amid tight security arrangements, the Chief Minister arrived at the ghat and performed the traditional ‘Makar buda’ ritual.

Extending greetings to the people of Odisha, Majhi posted a message on X, describing Makar Sankranti as a festival of enthusiasm, inspiration and tradition.

He expressed hope that Odisha’s rich cultural heritage would further strengthen social unity and harmony, and prayed for continued progress of the state and happiness in every household with the blessings of Mahaprabhu.

Police officials said elaborate security measures were put in place during the Chief Minister’s visit.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Majhi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 71 development projects worth over Rs 1,900 crore in Keonjhar district.

Addressing a public gathering, he said Keonjhar has been a major contributor to Odisha’s economic strength, highlighting its rich mineral resources, forests, agricultural base and skilled human resources, which have played a vital role in the state’s overall growth.
