Cuttack, Aug 7: The Football Association of Odisha (FAO) would hold soccer championships between its various centres across Odisha. The championships will be held separately for different age groups.
The decision was taken at the FAO Grassroots and Women's Football Development Committees meeting held at Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) Conference Hall on Sunday, presided by FAO Treasurer Bhakta Ballav Das.
The other dignitaries of FAO present in the meeting were Bijay Das (Vice President), Dillip Kumar Sahoo (Vice President), Avijit Paul (Joint Secretary), Md Shahid Jabbar (Joint Secretary), Biswasranjan Gharei (Joint Secretary),.Sangeeta Sharma (Joint Secretary), Sahadev Rout (Chairman, Women Development Committee) and Surjit Ghosh (Technical Advisor). The meeting was also attended by the members, coaches and representatives of the affiliated units of FAO, revealed association sources.
As on date, a total 20 grassroots centres have been started by FAO at various districts of Odisha. More than 30 players are being trained under qualified coaches at every centre. The centres are being provided all possible support and cooperation by FAO and the State Sports & Youth Services Department, to run various programmes efficiently.
The meeting also discussed the other challenges and difficulties faced by the Grassroots centres of interior districts. On the occasion a workshop was also conducted by Surjit Ghosh (Technical Advisor, FAO) highlighting how to impart proper training to young kids, FAO sources added.
