BHUBANESWAR:  Samir Dey, a senior BJP leader and former minister who has been elected as the president of the Football Association of Odisha (FAO) demand for the resignation of BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das as the president of the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) highlights concerns about cricket administration in the state.

According to Dey, Das did not contribute significantly to the promotion of cricket or other sports during his tenure as OCA president. Dey believes that a change is needed to move the game forward and address issues related to corruption in the sports sector. The matter will be investigated by the new government in the state.

Samir Dey was elected uncontested, as no other candidate filed nomination papers.

The incumbent secretary of FAO, Ashirbad Behera, and his panel of candidates for other posts are also likely to be elected on July 21, with a majority of 241 votes in favor of Behera’s panel.

Additionally, BJD Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantray recently resigned as the FAO president, reportedly because his name was not forwarded by the Radharaman club. Samantray had served as the FAO president for the last two terms. The changing leadership in sports organizations in Odisha reflects broader shifts in the state’s political scenario after recent elections .
