Bhuban, Oct 15: The renowned Bullock Yatra in Bhuban commenced on Monday night with much fanfare and concluded today at around 10 am. This year, the grand procession included 32 beautifully adorned oxen. The entire town is abuzz with excitement as traditional dance troupes and band parties join the vibrant procession.

The Bullock Yatra, which originated from the Thoria community during Dussehra, is a time-honoured tradition. In the past, oxen were heavily involved in trade activities, and during Dussehra, the community decorates the animals, offering prayers and leading a procession through the town. Over time, this event has gained significant popularity, with preparations beginning two months prior. The yatra officially starts with prayers at the shrine of the local deity, Maa Banijari.

Thousands of people from the town and neighbouring areas have gathered to witness the grand event.

A photo exhibition showcasing the 40-year history of the Bullock Yatra has also been organised by the Tripti Library, drawing large crowds. Authorities, including police and peace committee members, have made all necessary arrangements to ensure the peaceful conduct of the procession.
