Gajapati, Dec 9: An Odia migrant worker from Gajapati district, identified as Jay Mallick of Dengaamba village under Mohana police limits, has died under mysterious circumstances in Goa. His body is being brought back to his native village today after post-mortem formalities.

According to reports, Jay had migrated to Goa nearly one and a half years ago for labour work and was employed at a hotel named Sambar. On Saturday, he was found dead in a bathroom within the hotel premises, his body reportedly discovered in a water tub with a towel tied around it. The Goa Police and hotel authorities informed the family soon after the incident.

Alleging foul play, Jay’s family members have claimed that he was murdered, pointing to the condition in which his body was recovered. With Jay being the sole breadwinner of the household, the grieving family has appealed to the government for financial assistance.

Authorities are yet to release further details as investigations continue.
