Kadapa (Andhra Pradesh), April 5: - Dr. Killi Kruparani, former Union Minister, officially joined the Congress party on Friday, marking her departure from the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) just two days earlier.

Accompanied by her husband Rammohan Rao, Dr. Kruparani made her entry into the Congress fold during the launch of a bus yatra organized by the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President, YS Sharmila Reddy, in the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency.

Welcoming her back to the Congress, Sharmila Reddy presented Dr. Kruparani with a party scarf, symbolizing her return to her political roots.

Expressing her sentiments on the occasion, Dr. Kruparani highlighted her dedicated efforts for Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSRCP in north Andhra over the past five years, lamenting her lack of recognition within the party. She revered the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy as a god-like figure and drew parallels between him and his daughter Sharmila.

Asserting her belief in the Congress party's ability to drive the state's development, Dr. Kruparani emphasized the need for a Congress-led government in Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Kruparani's journey back to the Congress comes after her disillusionment with the YSRCP leadership, stemming from her disagreements with the party's candidate from the Srikakulam Lok Sabha constituency, Perada Tilak, and other leaders. She expressed disappointment over not being fielded as a candidate in either the Lok Sabha or Assembly elections by the YSRCP.

Having previously served as a Lok Sabha member from Srikakulam on a Congress ticket in 2009, Dr. Kruparani held the position of Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology in the UPA government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh from 2012 to 2014. However, her electoral fortunes took a hit in 2014 when she contested again from Srikakulam but finished a distant third, attributed to public discontent over the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
