Bhubaneswar, Sept 16: Women across Odisha are eagerly anticipating the launch of the Subhadra Yojana, the first major initiative of the new BJP government in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to officially inaugurate the scheme on September 17 at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.
In preparation, beneficiaries have already received an initial payment of Rs 1 to verify their accounts, with the remaining Rs 4,999 scheduled to be credited subsequently.
Ahead of the launch, prameyanews.com asked several women in the state to know their excitement and how they plan to use the funds.
“Subhadra Yojana is an incredible initiative focused on enhancing the welfare of women. For many, receiving Rs 5,000 is not a small amount. I'm eagerly anticipating the first installment of the scheme on September 17, have already received Rs 1. I have planned to invest this amount in my business and hope that all beneficiaries will use the funds effectively”, said Sandhyarani Mohapatra from Rayachakradharpur in the Satyabadi block of Odisha’s Puri district.
Another beneficiary from Bhubaneswar, Maitri Das, has shared her excitement about receiving Rs 5,000 as the first installment. She said, "I have plans to invest the money in my dairy farm and increase its profitability. It's a fantastic chance to secure my future and support my family. I’m thankful for this assistance and urge everyone to use their funds in ways that generate income and benefit their families."
Meanwhile, the Deputy CM Pravati Parida said, “All beneficiaries will eventually receive the benefits of the Subhadra Yojana. I urge everyone to remain calm, as registration for the scheme will continue. Those currently living outside the area can also enroll at any time without rush, as the scheme will be available for an extended period. Registrations made after September 17, including those in November, will still qualify for the Rs 5,000 benefit. The scheme will persist until every eligible beneficiary has received the funds in their bank account.
"I encourage all applicants not to worry and to apply as soon as possible. So far, approximately 6.5 million women have applied, and the CM Mohan Majhi-led BJP government aims to include at least 10 million women under the Subhadra Yojana", she added.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries aged 21 to 60 will receive Rs 50,000 over five years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29. This amount will be distributed in two installments of Rs 5,000 annually and a total of Rs 50,000 in five years, directly to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-enabled and DBT-enabled bank account.
