Berhampur, Feb 23: In a tragic incident, a Class X girl in Odisha’s Berhampur who was appearing the current Matric(HSC)Exam reportedly committed suicide on Monday after appearing the English Exam, conducted on Saturday.

With the extreme step of the meritorious girl, the bereaved parents alleged that their ward committed suicide due to malpractice fear, as she was caught by an invigilator with a cheat sheet and warned of stern consequence.

The deceased has been identified as Shriya Sahu, a native of the Shriram Nagar area in Berhampur Town. She was appearing the Class X Exams in the PM Shri V V Giri Government Girls High School.

According to the parents, Shriya had prepared well for her exam and attended the 1st Language Odia with a joyous mood. However, on the 21st she returned home in a sulky state of mind following her Second Language session. It was allegedly due to harassment of an invigilator at the examination hall as she was found with a cheat sheet with her. Meanwhile, she was warned of ‘Malpractice Tag’,that debars someone from exams for three years.

“Fearing the ‘Malpractice Tag’ our lass ended herself late at night on Sunday”, alleged the bereaved parents.

Responding to the media queries Centre Superintendent & HM of the PM V V Giri Girls HS Chandini Panda said, Exams here are going on smoothly under CCTV surveillance where the invigilators have been asked to co-operate students in all ways.

Refuting the allegations of any harassment to students regarding malpractices, Panda said that no such incident has taken place according to her knowledge. No students have been yet intercepted with any cramming materials during the 2 days sittings. However, she assured of an impartial investigation as a sincere response to the bereaved parents’ concern, based on the CC-TV footage.
