Cuttack, March 17: Another patient has died while undergoing treatment following the fire incident at SCB Medical College and Hospital’s casualty ward. The deceased has been identified as Suman Kumar Sahu from Banarpal in Angul district.

The incident had occurred late on Sunday night at the hospital due to a major fire reportedly caused by an electrical short circuit. Initially, 10 patients had lost their lives in the blaze. Later, one more death was reported, while several others were admitted to different hospitals in critical condition.

Suman Kumar Sahu, who had sustained severe burn injuries in the fire, was undergoing treatment in the ICU. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, taking the death toll higher.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken serious note of the incident and sought a report from the state government. The Chief Secretary has been directed to submit a detailed report within 15 days.

Notably, Manoj Jena, President of Human Rights Front India, had filed a complaint with the Commission regarding the incident.
