Bhubaneswar, Oct 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a low-pressure area has developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal at around 5:30 a.m. this morning, following the remnants of a cyclonic circulation that persisted since Thursday.

According to the Met Department, the system is moving west-northwest and is expected to intensify further within the next 24 hours.

“Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining south Andaman Sea, a low-pressure area has formed over southeast Bay of Bengal at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 24th October 2025. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during next 24 hours”, read the IMD bulletin.

According to weather forecasts, the low-pressure system is likely to intensify into a depression around October 26.

The IMD has predicted thunderstorms across the southern districts on October 25, while the rest of the state is expected to remain mostly dry.

Rainfall is likely to subside from October 29 onward, with stable weather conditions prevailing thereafter.
