Bhubaneswar, December 17: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday declared the expansion of Berhampur into a Greater Berhampur City. He instructed the district administration to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to guide the development, aiming for balanced urban growth and enhanced quality of life.

Speaking at the 42nd annual function of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir in Berhampur, CM Majhi emphasized that Berhampur and Ganjam district are vital to the progress of southern Odisha and the state as a whole. As part of the development initiative, he announced the construction of 10 key roads in Berhampur and surrounding areas, with an investment of ₹52.17 crore, aimed at improving traffic management and the Ease of Living.

Additionally, the Chief Minister revealed plans for Town Planning (TP) Schemes to create advanced infrastructure and provide basic services in an organized way. The development of Food Streets in Berhampur was also announced, capitalizing on the city's reputation as a food hub.

CM Majhi highlighted the importance of Berhampur's role in Odisha’s growth, mentioning a ₹6,000 crore project for a six-lane road connecting Berhampur to Jeypore. He also stressed ongoing reforms in the education sector, including the introduction of the National Education Policy 2020 and the merger of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Boards to enhance quality.

During his address, he expressed nostalgia for his teaching days and praised Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir for its commitment to quality education. The event also saw the felicitation of meritorious students and the paying of floral tributes to key figures like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Mohan Nayak.
