Dhaka, December 20: The funeral of Sharif Osman Hadi, convenor of Inqilab Moncho, was held today in Dhaka, drawing a large crowd of mourners. In accordance with the family's wishes, Hadi was laid to rest beside national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s grave. The funeral service was marked by prayers, with some attendees draped in the national flag and chanting slogans demanding justice for his death.

Saturday was declared a day of state mourning, with national flags flown at half-mast and special prayers held across places of worship. The day also saw relative calm in Dhaka after two days of protests by Hadi’s supporters, though security was tight. Police and Border Guard Bangladesh forces were deployed around key locations, including the Parliament, ahead of the service.

Hadi was tragically shot on December 12 while traveling by rickshaw in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area. The assailants, arriving on a motorcycle, opened fire before fleeing. His death sparked protests and unrest, prompting authorities to increase security and monitor online activity. The National Cyber Security Agency urged the public to report posts that could incite violence or promote terrorism.
